Terms of Service

Your agreement

By creating an account or using Katuranga — the katuranga.com website or the Katuranga app for Android — you agree to the terms on this page. If you don't agree with any part, don't use the service.

These terms are read together with the Privacy Policy, which explains what data we store and how you can delete it.

Who may use Katuranga

Katuranga is intended for players aged 6 and over.

Your account

• One person, one account. Multiple accounts used to manipulate ratings, win events, or harvest commission are not allowed.
• Accurate data. The email address you register must truly be yours — that's where password recovery is sent.
• Your password is your responsibility. Everything that happens through your account is considered done by you. If you suspect someone else has signed in, change your password and check the device list on the Account page.
• Accounts may not be sold or transferred.

Fair play

Katuranga only means something if the opponent across the board is a human thinking for themselves. Therefore, during rated games it is forbidden to:

• use chess engines, opening databases, endgame tablebases, or any software assistance;
• ask other people to choose moves for you;
• deliberately lose repeatedly to lower your rating, or arrange results with an opponent;
• use someone else's account, or have someone else play on your account;
• disrupt the service: flooding the server, breaking security measures, or scraping data automatically in large volumes.

If cheating is proven, we may void game results, reset ratings, revoke prizes and commission, and suspend or delete the account. We refund rating points to affected players as far as the game records still exist, and the notice is sent to their Inbox.

Playing against Katuranga's bots in "Play Bot" mode is of course not cheating — the bots are opponents we provide, and their results aren't mixed with human-versus-human ratings.

Conduct and usernames

Usernames, profile photos, and messages you send may not contain insults, hate speech, pornography, threats, or fraud; and may not impersonate others, including Katuranga's administrators. We may change a username or remove a photo that violates this without prior notice.

Paid plans

• Prices are shown in Rupiah on the Plans page before you pay, and the price that applies is the one shown when the order is created.
• The prices we set are prices for Indonesia. Purchases inside the Android app are billed by Google Play, and Google converts that price into the currency of the country where your Play account is registered. The conversion follows Google's own exchange rates and rounding, so prices in other countries may differ slightly from a daily exchange-rate calculation — as may the taxes that apply in that country. What binds you is the amount Google Play shows on the payment screen, before you approve it.
• No automatic renewal. Plans stop on their own on their end date and the account returns to Standard. You don't need to cancel anything, and no bills arrive unexpectedly.
• Payments are processed by the payment gateway (Midtrans). Your card number, PIN, and e-wallet balance never reach our servers.
• If money was taken but your plan didn't upgrade, contact us with the order number — we'll fix the plan or refund the payment.
• Otherwise, purchases are final, because plan benefits apply immediately. Purchases made through Google Play follow Google Play's refund policy.
• Accounts suspended for violating Section 4 don't receive a refund for the remaining plan period.

Invite Friends Program

This program is voluntary and its rules are as follows:

• 25% commission on the first purchase of each person you invite. Later purchases by the same person earn no commission.
• Rp5,000 for every multiple of 5 people you invite who are still active after 7 days.
• Minimum withdrawal Rp50,000, transferred to GoPay at the approved number. Transfers are done manually, within 7 working days of the request.
• Requirements to join: verified email, approved phone number, and a profile photo set.
• Commission is calculated from genuinely valid purchases. Invitations made with fake accounts, emulators, or the same person repeatedly are voided along with their commission, and the person responsible may be removed from the program.

We may change or end this program at any time. Commission balances that are valid at the time of the change can still be withdrawn.

Content rights

What's yours stays yours. Profile photos and text you upload remain yours. By uploading them, you give us the permission needed to display them within the service — for example, your profile photo appearing on the leaderboard.

A game belongs to two people. Records of games you play are stored and may be shown to your opponent and in the service archive, including after your account is deleted, with your name replaced by "Deleted player".

What's ours stays ours. The name "Katuranga", its emblem, design, lesson texts, and program code belong to Chess League Limited and may not be copied or reused without written permission. Katuranga uses a number of open-source components — including the Stockfish chess engine — which are subject to their own licenses.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, or that endanger other players and the service. For minor violations, we give a warning first through the Inbox.

You may stop at any time: delete your account from Account or via the Delete account page. Deletion has a 7-day grace period and can still be cancelled during that period.

Service provided as is

Katuranga is provided "as is". We work to keep the service running and correct, but we don't promise that it will always be available without interruption, free of errors, or that engine analysis and game evaluations are always accurate.

Scheduled maintenance and unexpected outages can stop the service temporarily — including interrupting games in progress.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our liability for losses arising from use of Katuranga is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event in question — and zero for users who never paid.

This limit doesn't reduce rights you have that can't be waived under applicable consumer protection law, and doesn't apply to losses caused intentionally by us.

Changes to the service and terms

Katuranga keeps changing: features may be added, changed, or discontinued. If these terms change, the effective date at the top of the page changes too and meaningful changes are announced through the Inbox. If you don't agree with the new terms, stop using the service and delete your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. If there's a dispute, please contact us first at support@katuranga.com — almost every issue is resolved there. Disputes not resolved by discussion are settled under the laws applicable in Indonesia.
